Gavina Montoya Sanchez, 87, of Aztec, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, in Aztec. She was born June 18, 1928, in Cuba, to Josefita Montoya and Napolion Trujillo.
Gavina enjoyed spending time with family and grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
Gavina was a loving mother, grandmother and sister-in-law; and she will be greatly missed.
Special thanks to Dr. Burns, the nursing staff and care givers at Good Samaritan Society Villiage for their loving care of Gavina.
Gavina was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Vidal Sanchez; daughters, Fedelina Garcia, Theresa Garcia and Nora Gonzales; parents; brothers, Frutose Trujillo, Belarmino Trujillo, Heracho Trujillo, Seferino Montoya and Florence Montoya; and sisters, Percellia Valdez and Rufina Lobato. She is survived by her son, Jose Vidal Sanchez; daughters, Georgia (Casimiro) Ruybalio and Rhonda Sanchez; brother, Bences Montoya; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 500 N. Mesa Verde Ave. in Aztec.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, also at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Kingsley George-Obilonu as celebrant. Burial wiil be at a later date. A reception will follow the Mass in the parish hall.
Pallbearers are Jose Vidal Sanchez, Joseph Garcia, Donovan Garcia, Chris Maestas, Leonard Trujillo and Louie Gutierrez.
