Gabriel Jerold Shields "Crush", 43, of Farmington, went to his eternal heavenly home to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, in Farmington. He was born March 23, 1972, in Shiprock to Jerome and Betty (Shields) Begay of Lower Fruitland. He was "Born to Ashhi (Salt People) and born for Tsenahabilnii (Overhanging Rock People)." He graduated from Kirtland Central High School in 1991 and lived in Denver where he pursued a career in the Dialysis unit from 1999 to 2014. Gabriel loved the outdoors, he enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking, weight lifting, cooking, helping the homeless, sharing the Word of God, making people smile with laughter and being with his family and friends. Gabriel was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Shields Begay; his grandparents, Freddy Shields, Sarah Shields, Hosteen Yellowman Begay and Mae Yellowman. He is survived by his daughter, Alexia Ruby Shields; his father Jerome N. Begay; his brothers, Jeromy Shields and Jerdarryl Shields; and his sisters, Jerre Bradley, Jennifer Bearden and Elvira Titus. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5, at Word of Life Christian Center, 1500 N. Fairview Ave in Farmington with Pastor George Ford officiating. Interment will follow at Kirtland- Fruitland Cemetary. Reception will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Nenahnezad Chapter House. Pallbearers are Jeromarcus Shields, Robert Bearden, Richard Bearden Jr., Andrae Shields, Aaron Shields and Davin Yazzie. Donations may be made to Wells Fargo Bank "Gabriel Jerold Shields Donations."
