Frank N. Stewart, 86, of Farmington, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 8, 2014. Frank was born in Huron, S.D., to the late Clarence and Julia Etta Stewart.
Frank had three siblings, John, Ralph and Ina Claire.
He graduated from high school and college in Huron, S.D. There he had an illustrious sports career in basketball, football, and track, which later led to an induction into the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame. Frank had a love of sports, competition of all kinds, and was an avid golfer for 55 years.
Frank is a veteran of the U.S. Army and National Guard.
Frank was married to Mary Lois Olsen in 1951 and moved to Miles City, Mont., in 1956, and together they raised three children, Mike, Julie and Kay.
While in Miles City Frank was the administrator at the Holy Rosary Hospital. The family moved to Great Falls, Mont., in 1971. There Frank was the administrator of the Columbus Hospital until 1985. In 1986, Frank moved to Farmington and he was the administrator of the Sun Crest Hospital until 1989. Frank retired in Farmington and lived there until his death.
Frank was a past president of the Montana Hospital Association, the Upper Midwest Hospital Conference, and the Custer County Association for Retarded Children.
Frank is preceded in death by his older brother, John and daughter, Julie.
He is survived by his son, Mike and daughter-in-law, Lisa; daughter, Kay; four grandchildren; Mandy, Melissa, Jonah and Tom; and five great-grandchildren, Rosemary, Jackie, Jessica, Alexandria and Miles.
Frank Stewart was a good honest man and father. He took pride in always doing the right thing. Frank was passionate about his beliefs and not afraid to express them. Frank loved his children, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was proud of all their accomplishments and expressed his love for them.
Frank is loved and will be missed.
Frank's ashes will remain with Mike Stewart in Alaska.
There will be no memorial service. A celebration of life will take place with Mike's immediate family. Condolences and questions can be sent to Mike Stewart at msc99654@gmail.com.
