A memorial rosary for Frances Barbara Martinez, 94, will be recited at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at St. Francis Catholic Church. A memorial Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. The Rev. Jim Walker will officiate. A private internment will be at a later date at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Martinez died Feb. 3, 2013, in Gallup. She was born Aug. 19, 1918, in Gallup to Frank Ortiz and Carmelita Gil Ortiz.

Martinez spent 15 years with Nizhoni Pharmacy in Gallup and she co-hosted the Catholic Radio Hour with the Rev. Donnan Herbe, OFM. She enjoyed caring for children and spent many years as a foster parent. Martinez enjoyed reading, teaching Spanish and playing Scrabble, spending time with her family and the beautiful, bright smile she had for everyone.

Survivors include her children William Martinez, of Gallup, Edward P. Martinez, of Peoria, Ariz., Michael Martinez, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Veronica Martinez, of San Rafael, Calif.; brother Frank Ortiz Jr.; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Carmelita Ortiz; son Richard "Dick" Martinez; brother Thomas Ortiz; and sisters Rosanna Minjares, Trinidad Baca and Alice Bustos.

Pallbearers will be all of her grandchildren, her "bestest friends" Scrabble group and the Gallup Canastas Club.

Cope Memorial Chapel in Gallup is in charge of arrangements.
