Evelyn LaVone Hicks

Evelyn LaVone Hicks, 81, of Clifton, IL., formerly of Farmington, New Mexico and Gilman, IL., died 8:49 A.M. at her daughter's home in Clifton on Thursday, March 3, 2016 following a lengthy illness. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman, IL. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Farmington, New Mexico. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Evelyn was born on July 31, 1934 in Rose, Nebraska to William and Neille (Barcus) Porter. Her childhood was spent in Nebraska and Colorado. She married Kenneth Leslie Hicks in Colorado in 1953. He died in 2003.
Survivors include her daughters - Lenette (Marvin) Behrends of Clifton and Linda (Dave) Frick of South Bend, IN. A step-daughter - Sheryl Furtado of Bloomfield, NM., and son-in-law - Kenneth Swann of Strafford, MO.
Granddaughter - Beverly (Steve) Benz of Onarga, IL., several great grandchildren, several step-grandchildren and several step-great grandchildren.
Evelyn is also survived by siblings William Lee (Donna) Porter of Springfield, VA and Iva (Harry) Peterson of Durango, CO. Sisters-in-law - Millie Porter of Bruneau, ID., and Barbara Allison of Rocky Ford, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter - Laura Swann, two grandchildren - Candy Mason and Jamie Wagers, step-granddaughter - Karen Behrends, two brothers - Frank Porter and George Porter and two sisters - Jean Cordell and Ola Woods.

Evelyn was a member of the First Baptist Church in New Mexico.
She had lived in Gilman, Watseka and New Mexico until December 31, 2015, then moved to Clifton and lived with her daughter and son-in-law.
Evelyn had worked as a school cook in Colorado and Littelfuse in Watseka. She retired to New Mexico in 1991 with her husband.
She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed working with plastic canvas and playing cards and Farkle.


Visitation will be held Monday, March 14th from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Cope Memorial Chapel of Farmington, 404 W. Arrington St. in Farmington. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6917 E. Main St. in Farmington with Pastor Brent Heddin officiating.

Evelyn's services are entrusted to Cope Memorial Chapel of Farmington, (505) 327-5142.
