Evelyn Arveda Hodges Rosenbrock Adams
April 23, 1926 - September 6, 2016

Evelyn Adams was born April 26, 1923, at Mt. Olive, near Caradan, Mills County, Texas. She was the fourth of five children in the union of Henry Melrose Hodges and Annie Oakna Conway Hodges. Her childhood and teen-years joys were her pets and playing the piano, which was self-taught. Due to hardship, she was unable to further her formal education past eighth grade, but was an avid reader all her life.
At eighteen, she and her sister, Mary, left home to find work as waitresses in San Marcos, Texas, where she met her first husband, Willie Rosenbrock. They married in San Antonio December 8, 1942. Mr. Rosenbrock was killed at the Battle of Anzio, May 26, 1944.
Between the time of his being shipped out and his death, Evelyn returned to Brownwood, Texas where she would become one of the later famed Harvey Girls. After World War II, she met and married her second husband, Thomas A. Adams of Brownwood, Texas, March 7, 1946. They had two sons.
Throughout her life, Evelyn extended her energies beyond her home to participate in and lead church-related functions and ministries. She was known to play the piano for her church and the Hispanic mission church. She served as a local and district leader of the Women's Society of Christian Service. Being highly involved in her sons' education, she served twenty-four years in the local P.T.A. Evelyn never met a stranger. Deep friendships were a natural extension of her life.
She and Tom took the family on many trips all over the country, especially the inter-mountain West. Camping and sight-seeing simply served as other opportunities to meet and enjoy people.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her father and mother, three brothers - Allen, Lewis, and Glendon; her sister, Mary; husbands Willie Rosenbrock and Thomas Adams; and granddaughter Rosiland Cassandra Adams. She is survived by her son Edwin Adams and wife Diana Copsey Adams of Denver, CO; son Brian Adams and wife Beckie Adams of Farmington, NM; grandson, Alex Oliszewski of Columbus, Ohio; granddaughters Cassandra Adams of Aztec, NM, and Christy Adams of Farmington, NM; great-granddaughter Loie Oliszewski of Durango, CO and great-grandson, Watson Adams of Farmington, NM.
