Evangeline M. (Jaquez) Jaquez

December 18, 1933 — April 1, 2014

La Gallinita Banty has taken wing and rejoined her parents and sister, Martha Tyler, in enternal rest on April 1, 2014. Her demise was due to complications from emphysema.

Evangeline Marie Jaquez was born December 18, 1933 in Blanco, NM to Savino and Elena Jaquez. She was the possessor of a multi-faceted personality, which made for an interesting life and for all she encountered.

She spent her formative years living on the family farm in Blanco until graduating from Blanco High School in 1951. Upon graduation she entered the Benedictine Monastery in Yankton, SD to pursue life as a nun; however health issues precluded her completion of vows. She then went on to graduate from Saint Joseph's on the Rio Grande College, Albuquerque, NM in 1958 with a degree in elementary education. Follow on education included the attainment of a post graduate degree from Northern Colorado College, Greely, CO in 1968.

Evangeline spent twenty five years engaged in her profession in New Mexico, California, Tripoli, Germany, Okinawa and finally retiring in 1983 from the Bureau of Indian Education in Arizona.

Upon retirement, she became the sole caretaker of her parents until their passing in 1986, and 1991, respectfully,

Surviving siblings include Christine Marquez, Victoria, TX, Margaret (Bill) Langnecker, Hattiesburg, MS, Edward Jaquez, Las Cruces, NM, Maximillian (Norma) Jaquez, Puyallup, WA, Rachel (Michael) O'Connell Canby, CA, Salome (Nadine) Jaquez, Sonora, CA and Boniface (Gerard) Greenlow, Palm Springs, CA.

A note of appreciation and gratitude is extended to Ms. Juanita Garcia, Ms. Angela Chavez, Ms.Valerie Lucero, and Ms. Debbie Archuleta for the compassion and care rendered during Evangeline's illness and final days.

It was her wish to be cremated and inurnment will be at Turley Cemetery alongside her parents.

A memorial mass will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 7, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Blanco, with Father Robert Mathieu as the celebrant.

Evangeline's care is entrusted to Cope Memorial Chapel of Aztec, 405 S. Main Ave., 505-334-9332.
