Eunice Ann (Rogers) Metheny

March 19, 1929 — September 20, 2014

Ann R. Metheny passed away from this life Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014. Ann was born Eunice Ann Rogers on March 19, 1929, in Jenkins, Ky., to Esther Collins Rogers and Ralph Rogers. At age of 5 she moved with her family to Hurricane, W.V. Ann graduated from Hurricane High School in 1943 at age 14 and went on to Marshall College (John Marshall) majoring in biology and physical education. Ann taught one semester at the high school before going to work for the Appalachian Power Company where she met her husband William J. Metheny. Three months later they married on Dec. 11, 1948, in Graceland, Ky. Together they raised five children William J. (Jim) Jr., David Patrick, Vicki Lynn, Sharon Kay and Steven Mark.
Ann and Bill moved their family to Albuquerque in 1953, later moving to Farmington in 1960, where they joined Bethany Christian Church. Ann ran the laboratory for Creamland Dairies for 12 years, worked as a substitute teacher and later for Steiner Corporation before Ann and Bill moved to Arizona in 1978. They loved their church family at East Mesa Christian Church where Ann volunteered in the church office. Ann returned to Farmington in 2008 after Bill passed away, re-joining her Bethany Christian Church family. Once back in Farmington Ann volunteered at the ECHO Food Bank.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of nearly 60 years; their son David; grandson Drew; and sisters, Phyllis Jean Sullivan and Lana Gerlach.
She is survived by her brother Denver Rogers (Patsy); sons, Jim Metheny and Steve Metheny (Brenda); daughters, Vicki Metheny and Sharon Wilson (Dan); grandchildren, Kalynn Goodman Carlton (Eric), Patrick Goodman, Samantha Metheny, Nathan Metheny, Amanda Wilson, Michelle Wilcox (Kevin), Sara Metheny, Mark Metheny; great-grandchildren Abby and Jude Carlton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ann and her family are very grateful for the loving care she received from the nurses, volunteers and aides from Northwest New Mexico Hospice (especially Barbara, Jessie and Ella) and the terrific caretakers from PALS making it possible for her to remain at home.
A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept, 27, at Bethany Christian Church, 711 E. 30th St. in Farmington, with Pastor Ursula Messano officiating.
Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, Ann requested gifts be directed to Northwest New Mexico Hospice, 608 Reilly Ave. in Farmington, or Bethany Christian Church. Ann's care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington, 505-325-8688.
