Eugene L. Watson
1923-2016
Eugene Louis Watson, 92, of Flora Vista, New Mexico passed away on Sunday, January 03,2016 in Farmington, New Mexico. He was born in Hope, New Mexico on November 24, 1923 to Ed and Anna Hardin Watson. He was preceded in death by his wife Jackie Dragoo Watson of 62 years; his parents and his brother Vernon Watson and sisters Virginia Brown and Ann Glick.
Mr. Watson served in the United States Navy as a motor machinist mate, second class, during World War II aboard the USS LST 332 and the USS LSM (R) 507. On D-Day he volunteered to help man a landing craft between ship and shore while under fire. During the twelve months following the invasion of France, Mr. Watson would make 105 English Channel crossings from England to Normandy troops and supplies. He received United States medals commendation, as well as being awarded the Liberation de La France medal from the French government in 1994. After the war Mr. Watson made his way to Farmington and worked twenty years for Halliburton Oil Company. He then purchased (and was the last owner) the iconic Hustler Stationery Store in downtown Farmington. Mr. Watson was a Christian and had a great spiritual influence on his family. He attended the Church of Christ.
He is survived by his children, Tracey(David) Duncan, Pooler, GA; Tanis(Ron) Harris,Flora Vista, N.M., Robin Watson, Kirtland, N.M.;Ryan(Janella) Watson, Farmington, N.M., and Wendy(Brian) Bratcher, Flora Vista, N.M.. Also surviving are grandchildren, Tyson(Lily) Duncan, Austin, TX; Toby Duncan, Dallas,TX; Lark (Carter) Stewart, Dallas, TX; Jared (Jessica) Bratcher, Flora Vista and Cammie (Shane ) Lukow, Kirtland. Surviving Great Grandchildren are Eli Duncan, Wills Point, TX; Mara Lukow, Akaius Lukow, and Mathias Lukow, Kirtland; Ethan Bratcher, Farmington and Bowen Bratcher, Flora Vista.
Funeral services for Mr. Watson will be held on Wednesday, January, 6, 2015, at 10:00 a.m,. at Eastside Church of Christ, 2012 Huntzinger Ave. Farmington, with pastors J.B. Harrington and Nathan Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Mr. Watson's care is entrusted to Cope Memorial Chapel in Farmington New Mexico.
