Dr. Gene Sussex, 83, Farmington resident for 60 years passed away on August 28th, 2013 in Farmington surrounded by his loving family.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Irene Sussex, and his brother, Floyd.
Gene is survived by his loving wife, Reina, of 61 years; their five children, Annette (Peter) Arndt, Dr. Randy (Rolanda) Sussex, Denise (Dan) Fleming, Marie (Garry) Smothers, and Shelly (Jeff) Ward; 10 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Gene graduated from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1951. After serving two years in the Army during the Korean War, Gene and Reina moved to Farmington in 1954 where they established his Chiropractic practice.
He was a member of the NM Chiropractic Association and served on the first NM Chiropractic Peer Review Committee. He was active with Jaycees and Civitans, coached many of his son's sports teams, and was President of the FHS Football Booster Club. Gene and Reina were both Duplicate Bridge Life Masters.
He was an avid pilot, fisherman, hunter, and especially loved playing golf with his swing group.
Gene and Reina enjoyed their last 21 years in San Carlos, Mexico where they made many life-long friends. Gene loved giving his service treating patients at the Franciscan Mission for the poor in Guaymas, Mexico. Those patients considered him a true Franciscan.
Gene was a devoted husband and father, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grand children.
A service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 808 Monterey Avenue in Farmington, on Tuesday, September 3rd at 10:30am. With Dr. Steve Sussex officiating. A private family burial will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
Gene's care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington, 505-325-8688.
