Ernest F. Grubb Jr.
July 24, 1935 - May 2, 2017
Ernest Frank Grubb Jr., 81, of Farmington passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017 in Farmington. Ernie was born July 24, 1935, in Farmington, the son of Ernest Frank Grubb Sr. and Lois Mary (Thurlo) Grubb.
During high school, Ernie was an active member of ROTC. Upon graduation he joined the U.S. Marine Corp. While stationed at USMC Air Station El Toro, he met and married the love of his life, Shirley. This marriage would last for 62 years. Ernie also served overseas aboard the USS Hancock touring the western pacific. After leaving the military, Ernie worked in the aircraft industry until landing a job with Union Oil at their Orange county chemical plant.
In 1970 it was decided to move his family of six back to the town of his birth, Farmington. A decision he would not regret. After exploring various opportunities, he found himself working for PNM, San Juan Generating station, where he would work until retirement. After retirement, there was finally time to pursue the important things, golf and golf accessories.
The beauty of this country was not lost on Ernest, an appreciation that he passed on to his children. The camping trips with his family and friends were his true joy. And every grandchild was an added bonus.
Ernie and Shirley spent a number of years snow birding in Southern California, an activity that continued until just recently. Spending winters in a place very dear to both of their hearts, Havasu.
The hunting and fishing trips with his sons (Son in law included) and grandchildren were very special and continued late in his life. Fortunately, the amount of game taken or the quality of the catch did not define the success of the outing. He valued the time with these people above all, insuring that the trips were always memorable and special.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; and grandsons, Brandon Heath Ritchie-Sanchez and Cosme Antonio (Tony) Grubb. He leaves behind his wife, Shirley Anne Grubb; daughter, Dawn Carol Sanchez (Raymond); sons, Jeffrey Guy Grubb (Liza) and Kelly Jay Grubb and (daughter in-love Cindy) and son, Dan Grubb; brothers, Albert Walter Grubb Sr. (Mary), Steven Wesley Grubb Sr. (Barbara); brother-in-law, James Edgar Whited (Ronnie); six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many dear friends.
Cremation has taken place and memorial services for Ernie will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 18 at the Farmington Elks Lodge, 801 Municipal Drive in Farmington with his brother Steve Grubb, Sr. officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Ernie's memory to the Alzheimer's Foundation (www.alzfdn.org).
Ernie's care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington, 505-325-8688. Those who wish to express their condolences may do so at serenityandcompany.com.
