Enel Rae Dennison Smith, 67, of Aztec, passed away on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, in Aztec. Enel was born Sept. 12, 1946, in Durango, Colo., to Harry and Blanch Phillips Dennison.
As a young woman Enel spent many weekends at the grange halls around Durango, Colo., singing with her family band, "The Dennisons." She had such a beautiful voice. Enel went on to marry Allen H. Smith of Arboles, Colo., and raise four sons.
Enel loved children and for many years she operated Grammie Enel's Daycare, in Aztec.
In the spring and summer months you could always find Enel working in her yard. She loved being outdoors and having her hands in the dirt.
After a long hard fight, Enel lost her battle with lung cancer. Through it all she never lost her sense of humor, and never gave up. She was definitely an inspiration and will be greatly missed.
Enel was preceded in death by her husband, Allen H. Smith; parents, Harry Dennison and Blanch Titch; brother, Larry Dennison; and her sister, Edryce Johnson.
She is survived by her sons, Justin H. Smith and Jason A. (Sandra) Smith, Jared L. (Ginger) Smith, and Michael B. (Julie) Smith; mother, Shirley Dennison; brothers; Phil Dennison, Harry Dennison and James Michael Dennison; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Enel will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Cope Memorial Chapel of Aztec.
Enel's care is entrusted to Cope Memorial Chapel of Aztec, 405 S. Main Ave., 505-334-9332. Those who wish to express their condolences may do so at www.serenityandcompany.com.
