Ellis Anderson Hamblin, fourth child and third son of Glen Obid Hamblin and Selena Lathem Anderson, was born on April 28, 1938 in Eager, Arizona.
Ellis grew up on the family farm, graduating from high school in 1956. He attended BYU for a semester, studying vocational agriculture. In September 1958, he began serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Montana.
In 1960, after serving his mission, he attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, where he began a mail courtship with Lavon Childs of Dillon, Montana. They were married and sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 11, 1961.
In October 1961, Ellis was activated and served in the Colorado National Guard in Ft. Riley, Kansas.
Ellis served faithfully in many callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, many of which included music callings and teaching; however, his favorite calling was Cub Master with the Cub Scout pack for 13 years.
Throughout the years, Ellis and his family lived in Ft. Collins, CO; Manhattan, KS; Keams Canyon, AZ; Farmington, NM; Gallup, NM; and LaPlata, NM.
Ellis was preceded in death by his parents, Glen Obid Hamblin and Selena Lathem Anderson; his sisters, Barbara Ball and Peggy Jack; and his brother, Obid.
Ellis is survived by his wife, Lavon Childs Hamblin; his daughters, Lorrinda (Michael) Romero, Selena Rae (and the late M. Dean) Johnson, Heidi Hamblin; and son, Leonard (Patricia) Hamblin; his grandchildren, Holly (Dan) Miller, Kara (Christopher) Fullmer, Kyle Johnson, Kami Johnson, Lori Coerber, Ellis Glen Hamblin, Annie Hamblin, Samantha Hamblin, Evan Hamblin; and great-grandchildren, Link and Kirin Miller.
A viewing will be held at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 East Ute Street, Farmington, from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29. The funeral service for Ellis will be held Thursday, November 30, at 10:00 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 400 West Apache, Farmington, Bishop Robert Bentley officiating. Interment will follow services at Greenlawn Cemetery, 1605 North Dustin, Farmington. Pallbearers are Michael Romero, Leonard Hamblin, Milton Black, Pat Walters, John Coy, Kyle Johnson, Ellis G. Hamblin, Christopher Fullmer and Evan Hamblin. Honorary pallbearers are Leslie Ball, Rayburn Jack, Dan Miller, John Arrington and Elbert Hamblin.
