Elizabeth "Betty" Thomas, age 100, lived a full and wonderful life. She was born April 5, 1913, in Compton, California, the daughter of William Stockwell and Laura Mildred Gaines. She graduated from the University of Southern California and became an elementary school teacher in California. She met her husband while in California. He worked for Shell Oil and they moved multiple times in the West, ending up in Farmington, New Mexico, where she taught elementary school. She loved traveling the world (she was one of the original US citizens to visit China in the late 1970s and went to the Amazon Rainforest when she was seventy years old), playing bridge, book clubs, friends and spending time with family. Her loving family includes: son William S. Thomas (Barbara), Son James A. Thomas (deceased December 2009) (Tricia), Granddaughter Jennifer L. Rowland (Jimmy). Her "Celebration of Life" Service will be held on Friday, February 14, 2014 at 11:00am, at the Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 East Ute St. in Farmington with Dr. Glenn Perica officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6917 East Main St., in Farmington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 865 N Dustin Avenue, Farmington, New Mexico.
