Mexican Springs
Services for Elizabeth Bitsilly, 80, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 8, 2015, at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Gallup. The Rev. Block will officiate. Burial will be on a family plot in Mexican Springs. A rosary will be recited 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at Cope Memorial Chapel.
Bitsilly died in Albuquerque. She was born December 18, 1934, in Mexican Springs, into the Near the Water People Clan.
Bitsilly attended grade school in Tohatchi and Mexican Springs and middle school in FGort Wingate and married Tsosie Bitsilly Sr. February 14, 1953. She worked as a house keeper at the Shalimar Hotel, and as a waitress for Golden Lion Cafe and Earl's restaurant. Bitsilly enjoyed sewing, beadwork, and doing home crafts. She was a participant of the Native American Church, involved in community events, and helped others. She love spending time with family and friends at traditional ceremonies, Gourd Dances, powwows, and rodeos.
Survivors include her husband Tsosie Bitsilly Sr; sons Timothy Bitsilly, Ridley Bitsilly, and Larry Bitsilly; daughter Laverne Sherman, Lindy Bitsilly, and Elvira Bitsilly; brothers Joelee Tsosie and Henry Tsosie; sisters Margaret Thomas, Catherine Manning, Veronica Garnenez, and Shirley M. Tsosie; 29 grandchildren and 78 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father Charlie Tsosie; mother Thelma Tsosie; sons Tsosie Bitsilly Jr. Terry Bitsilly and Alvin Bitsilly; daughter Laura Mae Bitsie and brothers Joseph Tsosie and Leonard Tsosie.
Pallbearers will be Tim Bitsilly, Chris Bitsilly, Larry Bitsilly Jr., Quentin Sherman, Erwin Tsosie III and Delvin Bitsie.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Mexican Springs Chapter House.
Cope Memorial Chapel of Gallup, NM is entrusted with arrangements.
