Eleanor Eve MacDonald Thomason, 81, passed away in her home on August 23, 2014 with her children by her side. A long time Farmington resident artist and avid community worker, Eve was born September 17, 1932 in San Francisco, CA to Eleanor Pynchon Davenport MacDonald and James Eugene MacDonald. She moved to Farmington with her parents in 1934. She and her late husband Eddie built their home on the old MacDonald homestead overlooking the confluence of the La Plata and Animas Rivers.
Eve graduated from Farmington High School in 1950 where she earned several music scholarships. However, love intervened in her college aspirations. Eddie spotted Eve sitting in the window of the drugstore located on the corner of Orchard and Main streets and was immediately enamored by her. Soon after, they met at a musical production that each attended separately. After a whirlwind courtship, they married in the Presbyterian Church on Dustin Ave., on October 29, 1950.
After raising her children, Eve began working at the Farmington Chamber of Commerce in 1974. She became the General Manager in 1980, then Executive Director in 1986. She retired in 1991.
Her organizational activities have included: New Mexico Chamber of Commerce Executives Association, Director; Farmington Chamber of Commerce Redcoats, Charter member; San Juan United Way, Divison Leader several times; New Mexico Distinguished Public Service Awards Council, member; Anasazi Pageant Foundation, Director; San Juan College Business Education Advisory Board, member; Farmington Museum Foundation, member; Freedom Days Committee, member; Four Corners logo for Farmington Chamber of Commerce, still in use; Selected as " Woman of the Year' in 1989 by Four Corners Women's Conference.
Her volunteer activities have included: Girl Scout Council, President, also troop organizer and troop leader; Hospital Auxiliary, volunteer; Four Corners Opera Guild (allied with Santa Fe Opera), Co-Chairman; Bicentennial Committee which worked to promote bond issue for development and construction of new Civic Center, member; Piano accompanist, San Juan Choral Society; Musical Director and Pianist for Wild West Night Shows to benefit San Juan County Museum Association and Farmington Museum; Pianist for show produced for Municipal League Convention in Farmington; Alternate pianist for Hillbilly Band; Pianist for Red Apple Flyer fundraisers for Farmington Museum; Pianist for United Way Kickoffs, Chamber and Better Business Bureau events; Entertained residents at Lifecare Nursing Home with piano and singing, during her mother's stay there. In 2008, she was named as a History Maker by the Farmington Chamber of Commerce, as was her mother (Eleanor MacDonald) in 1995.
She loved and enjoyed seeing her friends at the lunch gatherings with the Steel Magnolias and the Delphians.
Eve stated "My biggest accomplishment and joy in my life was giving birth to and raising my wonderful children. I thank God for my children and their children and for my loving husband."
Eve is survived by her sister Enid Tidwell and nephew Michael Tidwell, children Cheryl (Tom) Thomason-Lethco, Michael (Jacqueline) Thomason, Patricia (Frank) Thomason Mohar; eleven grandchildren, Brandy (Stacee) Armenta, Cody (Kim) Thomason, Jeff ( Stacy) Hines, Britton Stewart, Michael (Jade) Thomason, Frankie Mohar, Shane (Jessica) Thomason, Jimmy (Luddell) Mohar, Natalie (Josh McCurry) Thomason, Lindsay Shea, Kristin Rodriquez. There are ten great-grandchildren, Matthew, Ava, Jeffrey, Isaac, Paisley, Kadyn, Dakoda, Jonny, Jovanny and Jherzie.
Also, cousins Judith MacDonald, David (Diana Ohlson) Beers, Earlene MacDonald, Dan (Cindy) Davenport and numerous loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eddie Lee Thomason, sons Eddie Eugene Thomason and James Matthew Thomason, granddaughter Eleanor Christine Mohar, nephew Shawn Tidwell and his father Roy Tidwell and her parents Eugene and Eleanor MacDonald.
Sincerest thanks to staff at San Juan Regional Medical Center, Lifecare and her loving caregivers Sharon Sandoval, Laura Sandoval, Sandra Gomez, Alisha Pine, Athena "Tish" George, Bob Fullmer and Guardian Hospice.
Cremation will take place and memorial services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Brewer, Lee and Larking Funeral Homem, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to charities of choice.
