Edith Parker McCown Fisher, passed from this world on Wednesday, October 8, 2012, in Aztec. She was 99 years old.
Edith was born May 27, 1913, near Flippin, Arkansas, the 6th child of Elizabeth Jane Pace and John Franklin Parker. Her family moved to Oklahoma about 1919 along with many other family members, settling in the Wetumka area where they farmed, ranched and raised their family.
She married Harve Earl McCown on December 26, 1930 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Edith and "Earl" remained in the Wetumka area where Wetumka area where they farmed and raised their family. This union was blessed with 8 children. Harve Earl McCown passed away on October 14, 1951. In February 1954, Edith relocated to Aztec, with her three youngest children to be near other family members who had moved there previously.
She married Irvin "Pete" Fisher, in Aztec.
Edith was the matriarch of this family in every sense of the word. She set the example for her children and future generations, conveying to them that with hard work and determination, much can be accomplished. She taught them all honesty and integrity. Edith was a wonderful cook who passed this talent on to her five daughters. Family gatherings at her home were legendary with heaps of homemade dishes and wonderful desserts.
She was highly respected by her family who turned to her for her sage advice and help.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth Jane Pace and John Franklin Parker; her husband, Harve Earl McCown; her siblings, including brothers, Nin, Herman, Jewel and Bill Parker; her sisters, Bessie Parker Osborn and Ruby Parker Osborn; her children, Bobby, Billy, Bette, Janice and Carmen; granddaughters, Robin and Leslie and her second husband, Irvin "Pete" Fisher.
She is survived by three of her eight children, Judy (Fred) Wade, Jerry (Janice)McCown and Donna Rowe; son-in-law, Lloyd Lewis; 20 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
