Doris LaVonne Evans, 83, of Farmington, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013 in Farmington. She was born June 21, 1929 in Kansas City, Mo. To Melvin and Maree Williams.
Doris lived in Albuquerque as a child and then California as a young lady where she graduated from Venice High School, attended Santa Monica City College and worked as an operator for the phone company. She returned to Albuquerque and was attending UNM and working for the phone company when she met John and they married June 10, 1952. As John worked for the aerospace industry they moved to Colorado and then back to California.
Doris loved camping and boating with family, friends and church youth groups her boys attended. As her family grew she volunteered as Cub Scout leader, Babe Ruth and Little League Snack Shack mom while also holding offices in the El Segundo Woman's Club. She also received her Associate of Arts Degree from El Camino Community College and worked full time for Pertec and Hughes Aircraft as an administrative assistant.
Upon retirement, Doris and John moved to Farmington, where she became very active in volunteer work with Navajo Ministries, Project Read at San Juan College, Republican Women, The Gideons, NM Coalition for Literacy and Farmington Woman's Club.
She continually worked at her passion of picture albums revealing her love and pride of family and friends. A family cruise in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary and, more recently, a party in the park for their 60th with friends and family added to the many pictured memories.
Doris was a faithful member of Baptist churches in Colorado, California and New Mexico and was proud of the many missionary couples they were blessed to be able to support through the years. She loved her Lord with all her heart.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bob Williams; sisters, Norma Williams Bright and Wanda Williams Spagle.
She is survived by her husband, John C. Evans; sons, Robert (Denise), Neil (Kelli) and Randy (Helen); seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
