Donna Lee (Martin) Hare

December 27, 1926 — January 17, 2014

Donna Lee Hare, 87, of Bloomfield passed away on Friday, January 17, 2014, at her home after a brief battle with cancer. Donna was born on December 27, 1926, in Farmington to Donald and Lois Martin. Donna was raised on the family farm in Bloomfield where she completed grade school. Donna graduated from Aztec High School in 1944. On December 9, 1944, Donna married Wayne Hare. Wayne and Donna celebrated 67 years of marriage together. Wayne and Donna settled on the Hare family farm in Bloomfield in 1945. They spent their lives residing on the farm where they raised three children: Judy, Ken and Kathy. Donna retired from the Bloomfield schools after serving many years as a secretary and administrative assistant. Donna served as the unofficial caretaker of the community, spending hours on the telephone every day talking with her family and many, many friends. Checking on her family and friends gave her great joy. It was a role her friends and family will miss. Donna also enjoyed crocheting bookmarks. Hundreds of her friends and family received this unique and valued treasure. Donna was preceded in death by her husband Wayne on July 12, 2012. Donna is survived by daughters Judy Steffens (John) of Rio Rancho, Kathy David (Bob) of Pagosa Springs and son Ken (Helen) of Bloomfield; sisters Colleen Miszkiel, Marilyn White, Lou Ellen Wernert, and brothers Robert Martin and Byron Martin; six grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A community Celebration of Life reception for Donna's family and friends will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Bloomfield Fire Department, 905 First Street. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Bloomfield Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 810 West Blanco Boulevard, with Pastor Kathy Potter, Pastor Dwain Depew and President Leroy Dugger officiating. An oral and pictorial history of Donna's life will be presented. Donna was a long time member of the Aztec Presbyterian Church but she welcomed, encouraged and shared all the religious faiths of her friends. Due to scheduling and space restraints of the Aztec Presbyterian Church and the Bloomfield Methodist Church on Donna's funeral date, the many friends of Donna from the Bloomfield LDS Church graciously offered to host Donna's funeral service. Burial will be in the Bloomfield Cemetery adjacent to the Hare Family Heritage Farm with music provided by Donna's friends from the Mennonite Church. Pallbearers will be Ken Hare, Lance Hare, Gaither Bynum, Josh David, Bob David, Ray Dennis, Chuck Hare, Matthew David and Brian White. Honorary pallbearers will be Raul Marquez, Colby Bynum, John Steffens, Wilbur Hare, Jack Ward, Robert Martin, Byron Martin, John White, and Gaither Daniel Bynum. In lieu of flowers, Memorials can be made to the Bloomfield Volunteer Fire Department, Bloomfield Methodist Church Parsonage Fund, or the Aztec Presbyterian Memorial Fund. Arrangements are with BREWER, LEE AND LARKIN FUNERAL HOME, 103 E. Ute Street in Farmington, NM, 505-325-8688.
