Donald Leroy Overturf, 86, of Farmington, New Mexico passed away on Monday, October 9, 2017. Don was born January 6, 1931 in Monterey, California to Allen and Gaynelle Overturf. Don married his high school sweetheart Janette Raile in 1949. They remained together until her death in October, 2005.
Don and Janette moved to Farmington to work and raise their five children; Brian Overturf and wife Laura, Blair Overturf and wife Colette, Gwen Harrington (deceased), Gail Dunnam and fiancé Rick Burke and Glenda Martin. Donald also leaves behind his sister Jean Hay of Colorado, 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother Bruce Overturf, daughter Gwen Harrington, sons-in-law, Todd Martin and David Dunnam and best friend Dan White.
Don worked as a warehouseman at Baroid for 18 years and then as a warehouseman for BHP/Navajo Mines until his retirement. Donald was a hardworking employee but his free time was dedicated to his love of fishing. If he wasn't pursuing catfish, he was out snagging salmon. Unfortunately, his struggle with Parkinson's ended his fishing long before he could fully enjoy his retirement years.
Don has been in the care of the staff of Beehive Homes for the past two years, where he thrived and enjoyed the great home cooking. We will all miss his tall tales and stubborn nature.
A Memorial service will be held at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Chapel, on Thursday, October 12, at 1:00 pm. Donald wished to be cremated and his care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St., in Farmington. (505)325-8688.
