Derril A. Gleim, 69, of La Plata, N.M., passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, with his wife and daughter at his side in La Plata N.M. He was born Feb. 9, 1947, in Hobbs.
Derril had a long battle with COPD. He was famous for his sense of humor; he always had everybody laughing. He loved the freedom he felt riding his favorite motorcycle.
Derril enjoyed working his tractor, doing whatever needed to be done. He was a carpenter and played a big part in designing and building the home where he and his wife lived. Derril started out as a cook, iron worker, rough neck, and driller. He advanced his career to directional driller and retired as a consultant.
Derril's greatest passions in life were his dogs, camping, fishing, wood working, Bob Dylan (and hanging out with his two favorite girls).
Derril is survived by his wife, Glennette Gleim, of La Plata, N.M.; daughters, Destri Gleim, of Aztec, and Jeannie Fiscalini, of Ventura, Calif.; mother-in-law, Elaine Brazell, of Farmington; brother-in-law, Larry Brazell, of El Paso, Texas; sister-in-laws, Lee Ginther, of Farmington, and Alberta Stark, of Farmington; sister, Rhonda Dalaho, Amarillo, Texas; and grandchildren, Dominick and Dalton Fiscalini.
A celebration of life will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 30 at San Juan Masonic Lodge, 1020 N.E. Blvd. in Aztec. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Disabled American Veterans or Scottish-Rite Learning Center at the San Juan Masonic Lodge.
