David C. Thompson, 88, of Farmington, died on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2014. He was born on July 8, 1927, in Tahoka, Texas, to the late Clay Floyd and Myrtle Thompson.
Dave graduated from West Texas State University with a degree in Agriculture. After graduating from college he moved to Shiprock, to work as a Soil Conservationist for the Branch of Land Operations. This is where he met and married his wife of 57 years, Barbara (Sells) Thompson. After working as a Soil Conservationist, he worked as a Housing Officer at the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) in Shiprock. He retired from the BIA and took on a job at San Juan College, teaching welding, a trade he learned from his father. He retired from San Juan College in 1992. Dave was a Mason.
Dave was such a proud grandfather and after retirement he was able to spend a lot of time with his grandchildren before they all started school. Dave was a hard worker and instilled many good traits in his children and grandchildren. He was a very loving, and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Dave is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, Stuart and Clay Thompson (Philana); daughter Becky Thompson; grandchildren, Averie Carpenter, Halie, Breanna, Ethan Thompson; and one great-grandaughter, Chloe Jacquez; his brother, James Thompson (Martha); sister, Joyce Stubblefield (CW); and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a viewing from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, at Cope Memorial Chapel of Farmington.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, at the First United Presbyterian Church, 865 N. Dustin Ave. in Farmington, with a graveside service following in Memory Gardens in Farmington.
Pallbearers are Stuart Thompson, Clay Thompson, Ethan Thompson, John Collins, David Thompson and Kevin Foster.
