Flora Vista

Darrell Leon Reimers was born on July 30, 1934 in rural Montague County, Texas.  Hugh and Onil (Sally) soon moved their sons, Don and Darrell, to Central New Mexico, where they farmed dryland pinto beans as sharecroppers.  They lived and worked on several farms in the Estancia and Moriarty Bean Valley.  As a family they labored through the end of the Great Depression and through World War II.  Seeking a better life, in 1949 they moved to Pagosa Springs, CO.  The family moved to Durango in 1950, with Darrell attending Durango High School.  He was employed by the Kruger family Purina Feed Store and received a 10 cent per hour raise when he married Naomi Drinen.

Darrell and Naomi moved to Farmington, NM in 1953.  Danny, Diane, Dennis, and Denise were added to the family.  Darrell was employed by El Paso Natural Gas as a welder’s helper and truck driver.  In 1957 they moved to remote Gomez Camp in Rio Arriba County, during which time Jimmy was born.  Darla completed the family of eight after they moved in 1960 to Gobernador Camp.  They moved to Bloomfield in 1965 where the children completed high school.  In 1995 they purchased a small farm just off the Animas River in Flora Vista, NM.

Darrell and Naomi’s family members are Danny Reimers and his wife Gail of Aztec, Diane Lamb and her husband Steve of Aztec, Dennis Reimers and his wife Teresa of Bayfield, Denise Porter and her husband John of Aztec, Jim Reimers of Fort Worth, Darla Johnson and husband Jim of Flora Vista.

Their grandchildren are Nathan Reimers and wife Holly, Marissa Reimers, Candace Williams and husband Michael, Kyle Lamb and wife Becky, Joseph Reimers, Bradley Reimers, Kathy Porter, Michelle Porter and Darrell Reimers.

Darrell and Naomi have 8 great grandchildren. Ethan, Lauren and husband Aydran, Kyler, Aiden, Austin, Avaree, Emmie and Addie.

For the majority of Darrell’s career, he either drove or supervised the transportation of “drip gasoline condensate”.  After 31 years with El Paso, he drove for Farnsworth Construction, Maralex Resources and Overright Trucking.

Darrell enjoyed the flea market where he collected most everything, weed pulling, splitting kindling, raising goats and being with family.
