Darrell Howell, 76, of Kirtland, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 8 , 2015, in Farmington. He was born Nov. 9, 1938, to the late Robert and Maggie Howell in Silver City.
Darrell graduated from Kirtland Central High School in 1956 and served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1958, specializing in weapons machinery and technology. He worked as a foreman at the APS Four Corners Power Plant until his retirement in 1982. He enjoyed spending time with his family and camping and held a lifelong interest in classic cars and trucks.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Donald; older brothers, Morris, Bennie, Melvin, and Alvin; and sisters, Margaret and Betty. Darrell is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jacqueline Hurley Howell; sister, Fannie Fuentes of Peralta; sons, Haskell Howell of Albuquerque, Donald Howell of Kirtland and Kelly Howell of Farmington; son-in-law, Richard Shipman; daughter-in-laws, Rebecca Howell and Timi Howell; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14 at First Baptist Church of Kirtland.
