Christine Yerkey, 49, wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend was called home on Dec. 19, 2013. Surrounded by her loving family, Christine passed away at home after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. She was born June 24, 1964, in Wheatfields, Ariz.
Christine has been reunited with her mother and father, Jim and Barbara Ben, and her brothers, Clement, Carl and Justin Ben, who preceded her in death.
Christine is survived by her soul mate and husband, of nineteen years, Doug Yerkey; four daughters, Leryn Velarde and spouse, Cory Schultz, Rachel Routt, Mindy Marsh and spouse, Daniel Gustin, and Samantha Marsh; and one son, Ian Yerkey. She is also survived by her greatest source of joy; her grandchildren, Ethan and Anika Velarde, Gabriel Routt, and G.W. Gustin. Christine will be greatly missed by her surviving siblings, Betty Ahasteen, Lettie Redhouse, Chester Ben, Phillip Ben, Amos Ben, Sherry John, and Peterson Ben as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A long time employee of Beall's, Christine will be mourned by co-workers who supported her during her fight with cancer, and by members of her church, Word of Life Christian Center to whom she was a constant source of inspiration. An avid basketball and softball player, Christine's zest for life and love of family was known by all. Her strong commitment to God and her enduring faith leaves a much-admired legacy.
Viewing will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, at Word of Life Christian Center, 1500 N. Fairview Ave. in Farmington, with a service celebrating her life following at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow in Kirtland-Fruitland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in honor of Christine Yerkey to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Christine's care is entrusted to Cope Memorial Chapel of Kirtland, 458 Road 6100, 505-598-9636.
