Charles Donald Nickles, 94, of La Plata, NM, passed away at home November 15th 2022. He was born to Ralph Nickles and May Glaister on June 4th 1928 in Durango Colorado. Donald went to school up until the eighth grade and straight to work. He worked many jobs that would include farming, ranching, and oilfield. In 1952, Donald was called to serve in the U.S. Army. During this time he served in the Korea. On returning home he worked for El Paso Natural Gas for a time. 1957, Nickles Brothers Incorporated was born. From there Donald would continue to farm, ranch, and cowboy with his brothers; Lester, Gerald, and Lloyd. He also was a longtime member of the Farmington Elks Club, Miners and Prospectors Club. Preceded in death wife Lourene Nickles; Parents Ralph and May Nickles; Brothers Lester Nickles, Gerald Nickles, Lloyd Nickles, Wesley Nickles. Survived by children Justin Nickles (Liz), Larry Spain, Sharon Russell (Tom); Sister Thelma Nickles. Grandchildren Jacob Spain, Steven Hansen, Brianna Nickles, Savannah Nickles, Zoe Nickles. Great-grandchildren; Dahl, Scott, Justine, Steven. Donald has lived a long and full life and was known by many. Services will be determined at a later date.
