Services for Bessie Newman Spicer, 83, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center in Thoreau. A public viewing will be at 5-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Cope Memorial and a private family viewing will be at 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at the Thoreau Ward Mormon Church.

Spicer died Jan. 30, 2013. She was born Jan. 3, 1930, into the Zuni People Clan born for the Red Streak People Clan.
Spicer retired from Gallup Indian Medical Center in 1992 after 20 years and enjoyed spending time with her family, children, and grandchildren.

Survivors include her brother Alfred K Newman and Henry Newman; sisters Violet Nez, Marjorie Newman, Vivian N. Pacheco, Mariam Newman, Virgina N. Weller and Hazel N. Carver; children Nadine Sharp, Roxanne B. Jones and Wynee Sanchez; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband David Birch Spicer; brothers Andrew Newman Jr. and Arthur Newman; sisters Christine K. Henio, Ruth N. Wright and Ruth N. Wright; and parents Winnie Tso and Andy Newman Sr.

Cope Memorial Chapel of Gallup is in charge of arrangements.
