Bernard L. Schilling, 92, of Aztec, passed away on July 21, 2015, in Bloomfield. He was born on Sept. 26, 1922 in Ogallala, Neb., to Paul and Frieda Schilling.
Barney was in the U.S. Army and worked S.O.D. and U.S. Army depot in Nebraska and then Nevada for the U.S. Navy Depot. He loved his vegetable garden. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, he also was a blood donor and very proud of that, also a member of Disabled American Veterans. He spent a lot of time at the Senior Center volunteering his time, he was very well appreciated. He was a good husband and father to his two girls. They spent time traveling to see his family. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; his wife, Millie Sowards Schilling; brothers, Dennis, Laverne, Kermit, Buford and Dale; sister, Evelyn Nichols and great-grandson, Conner Scott. Bernard is survived by his daughters, Vicky Howell and Debby Schilling; brother, Dewayne; and grandchildren; Angela (John) Scott, Mark Howell and Kevin (Courtney) Howell and great-grandchildren, Cody and Carson Scott, Zane and Jaedyn Howell, Chase Howell and Addison Howell and sister in laws Emily (Joe) Henke, Virginia (Jim) Caywood.
A graveside service for Bernard was held on Friday, July 31, in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Farmington.
