Barbara Primley Buoy, 65, of Kirtland, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 15, 2017, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington after a long battle with cancer and its complications. She passed peacefully with family members attending her.
Barbara was born Sept. 5, 1951, in Menominee, Mich. to Edna (Meyers) and Daniel Primley. She resided there until her graduation from Menominee High School in 1972. At that time, she left the area to experience life elsewhere including Illinois and Colorado, finally settling in New Mexico. There she attended N.M. State University and graduated with honors in 1981, earning an Associate's Degree in Secretarial Administration. She was also honored to be included in Who's Who in American Junior Colleges while in her 30's.
Barbara was employed after graduation by PNM while residing in Kirtland. She retired from PNM in 2006. During her employment there, she married Mike Buoy on Sept. 24, 1993. She was baptized a member of the LDS Church on July 30, 1995.
Barbara was actively engaged in her community by serving in the United Way, American Business, Women's Association, Family Crisis Center and did ride along to assist with Victims of Domestic Violence. She was also a member of Friends of Bill W., celebrating her sobriety birthday on June 8, 1979.
Barbara loved to bike, read, watch movies and play with her son Thomas. She loved the arts, attended many an art walk, and she loved to travel. From watching TV Travel Shows; reading magazines to riding the open road by motorcycle or in her favorite van. She also enjoyed cruises. Outside the continental U.S., she visited Canada, Mexico, Alaska and Hawaii. Many of her travels included visits to family. She is considered a key member in keeping the different generations connected with her words of wisdom.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents: mother in 1977 at age 69 and her father in 1984 at age 84. Her younger sister, Dorothy (Primley) de Rivero also passed away in 1985 in Mexico at the age of 31. Barbara leaves behind her husband, Michael (Mike) Buoy, 63, of Kirtland, sons, Edward Anderson 47, of Foster City, Mich. and Thomas Buoy, 23, of Farmington. She is also survived by her brother, Robert (Bob) Primley, 70, (Stella) of Menominee, Mich.; sisters, Mary (Primley) Kozikouski, 67, (Dennis) also of Menominee, Mich., Margaret (Primley) Knutson, 67, of Chandler, Ariz., along with her beloved friends, Irene Mike 68, of Nenahnezad and Chris Frank, 26, of Farmington, also myriad beloved nieces and nephews and special friends.
A visitation for family and friends will be from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 473 Road 6100 in Kirtland. Barbara Buoy's celebration of life will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23 at the church with Bishop Rodney Warner officiating. Burial will follow at the Kirtland-Fruitland Cemetery, 59 Road 6575 in Kirtland. A luncheon for family and friends will follow after the interment at the church.
The family wishes to express special thanks to all employees of San Juan Regional Medical Center who assisted in Barbara's care as well as the dedicated and loving employees of Guardian Angel Home Health, especially Di, Dawn, Drew and Glena and all the helpers at San Juan Regional Wound and Treatment Center of Farmington.
Barbara met and befriended many people while working in the service industry. She learned to love and respect all. She had a unique sense of humor and has left her family and many friends laughing at their wonderful memories of this fantastic lady.
