Arthur Henry Hanson

Arthur "Art" Henry Hanson, 85, of Farmington passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington. Art was born Sept. 20, 1928, in Carpio, North Dakota. Art was the son of Thomas Emil Hanson and Julia Walker Hanson. Art began his military service in the U.S. Navy on June 7, 1946. He served on the USS Nereus and on naval submarines. His honorable discharge was on April 13, 1948, after serving as a naval fireman. In August of 1966, Art and his family moved to Farmington where he was employed by American Tank and Steel until he retired in 1987. He was a member of the VFW Post #2182. He was also a lifelong devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He is sorely missed by his loving family. Art is survived by his wife Betty Hanson; son Thom Hanson (Kevin); daughters, Becky Hanson, Renee Herrera and Lori Varnell (Darrell); sister, Evelyn Brandvold; grandchildren, Ryan Varnell, Devin Herrera, Lexie Hanson, Jordan Varnell and Dominic Herrera. Cremation will take place and memorial services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 19, at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home in Farmington, with Bobby Griffith officiating. Full military honors will follow the memorial provided by the VFW Post #2182. Memorial donations can be made to the charity of your choice. Art's care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington, 505-325-8688.
