Anomah Velda (Penny) Whitney
August 22, 1919 - March 20, 2015
Anomah Velda (Penny) Whitney known to most as Penny was picked up by the Heavenly Angels early Friday, March 20, 2015 in Farmington, New Mexico.
Penny was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on August 22, 1919 to Otho Lunsford and Mary Florence Benton. She married in 1941 and had one daughter, Cheryl.
Penny was a very talented musician and played in a country band for many years with her husband. Her musical talents included fiddle, guitar, banjo, piano and organ.
Penny and her husband later moved to Beaumont, Texas where her husband became a disc jockey. They later moved to Farmington, New Mexico and bought KRZE Radio Station. They divorced in 1976.
In her lifetime she was fortunate to meet almost every top name Country Artist from the 1940's through the 1970's.
Penny will always be remembered for her delicious Southern cooking, her wonderful sense of humor and her lifelong devotion to her family who always came first.
She was the most giving, unselfish person who gave so much love.
Penny was known as "Nana" to her grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great grandkids.
She was a bed and breakfast, babysitter (kids or pets), loan company (no Interest), short term housing facility and teacher of music.
She was devoted Methodist, a dedicated Republican and a huge Dallas Cowboys fan.
She lived alone in her home until she was 91 years old and could no longer take care of herself. She became a resident of Cedar Ridge Nursing Home in August 2010. As always she did it with grace while not liking it she didn't fight it.
Her positive attitude and never give up attitude prevailed. She was loved by everyone and will be missed so very much.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Wanda Lee, and twin daughters Caylon Ann and Shannon Jane.
