Anne Richardson Speer

June 11, 1929 — October 31, 2016

Anne Richardson Speer, 87, of Farmington, passed away at her home, surrounded by family Monday, Oct. 31, 2016. She was born June 11, 1929, in Carlsbad, to Wardie Leck McCormick and Allan Knight Richardson.
She was preceded in death by both parents, her beloved husband of 62 years, William Robert Speer, and a daughter, Pamela Speer Barela.
Anne's youth was spent in both Carlsbad and Farmington, where she was an active and athletic child who excelled at water sports, tennis, softball and barrel racing. She graduated from Carlsbad High and then from the University of New Mexico in 1951 where she was a cheerleader and active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Anne met Bill while in still in high school through his uncle, legendary Carlsbad High coach Ralph Bowyer, and they fell in love at UNM where Bill played on the Lobo football team. They married in 1950 and moved to Farmington immediately after graduation to begin what turned out to be a San Juan Basin legacy.
Raising a family immediately became the primary focus of Anne's life. She selflessly dedicated her life to being a phenomenal wife, mother, grandmother and mentor to all their friends and succeeded wildly at it. Her legacy to all is without doubt one of love, devotion, service, laughter and zest for life and she became affectionately known as "Grannie Annie" to all those who knew her well. She taught by example how to be a joyous and charitable good citizen and will be immensely missed by all.
Anne is survived by her sister, Judy Hubbard Koskovich and brother, "Hap" Allan Knight Richardson Jr. both of Albuquerque; and her children, Debra Speer Bristow of Albuquerque, Stephen William Speer and wife Therese Pepin Speer of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Jennifer Speer of Flower Mound, Texas and Samuel Robert Speer and wife Charlotte Nelson Speer of Farmington; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Anne will never be lost to us as she will live forever in our hearts and souls. Rest in peace now with our Lord knowing you led a life well lived.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 at the First United Methodist Church, 808 N. Monterey Ave. in Farmington.
