Amy C. Barela, 81, passed away peacefully at her home with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren by her side, on Sunday, November 23, 2014, in Farmington, NM. She was born on Dec. 31, 1932 in Durango, Colo., to Fidel and Juanita Mestas.
Amy was a very cherished wife, mother and grandmother. She left this life to be with her husband Manuel. Manuel and Amy owned a local café in the 50s and a successful trucking company.
She is preceded in death by her husband Manuel Barela; son Charlie Barela; and parents Fidel and Juanita Mestas.
She is survived by her children; sons Leonard (Hilda) and Charlie (Liz); and daughter Eleanor (Richard) Herrera; grandsons Patrick Herrera, Anthony Stallings, Leonard Barela Jr., Levi Barela and Luke Barela; granddaughters Monica (Sammy) Armenta, Bernadette (Geno) Lopez, Valerie Barela and Darlene Herrera; great-grandchildren TeAnna, Savannah, Elijah, Manny, Siera, Brooklynn, Nicholas, Sammy III, Michelle, Anthony, Aubriana, Jose and Robert; and her four sisters and three brothers.
We would like to express our deep appreciation to her niece Frances Gallegos for the special things she did for our mother.
A rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 28, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 307 N. Church St. in Bloomfield, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m., with Deacon Pat Valdez as celebrant. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6917 E. Main St., in Farmington.
Amy's care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington, 505-325-8688.
