Alma B (Bradley) Karlin

May 9, 1913 — May 17, 2013

Alma B. Karlin, 100, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, teacher and friend, of Farmington, went to meet her Savior on Friday, May 17, 2013 in Farmington.
Alma took a teaching job in Las Vegas, N.M. where she was introduced to the love of her life, Bob Karlin, which was the beginning of their 63 years of loving marriage. Alma was a dedicated educator who adored her students. She taught throughout the state of New Mexico and spent most of her career at Kirtland Central High School, where she retired from in 1976.
She felt like her greatest accomplishment was her children and grandchildren.
Her Monday morning coffee group was the highlight of her week. Many members have come and gone and remain close to her heart.
Alma's heart was in the community of Kirtland and the many friends she and Bob made through the years. When the family moved to Kirtland in 1952, they drove down Harper Hill and saw the valley below. Mom thought it was so beautiful as they drove through the tunnel of trees. That first house they rented was surrounded by an orchard and had a big weeping willow on one side. Mom fell in love with Kirtland that day and has loved it ever since. She was committed to the community and so proud of the schools.
Alma's last big celebration was on May 9, 2013, when more than 150 former students, friends and family gathered at her home at the Beehive to celebrate her 100th birthday. She thoroughly enjoyed the day visiting with so many longtime friends and family. Alma has been the center of her family and will be greatly missed. Her positive attitude towards everything in life has had an impact on many people. She saw life through ""rose colored glasses"".
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Karlin, her parents, Walter Leo and Trudy Beatrice Bradley, a brother, Bill Bradley and sisters, Lenora Funk and Gertrude Thompson. She is survived by a son, William Karlin and his wife Sue (Alma's special daughter-in-law) and daughter Bobby Kay Tentler. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jeani Garcia, Sheri Archer, Karyn Austin and Kristopher Karlin; nine great-grandchildren, Patricia, Mathew, Alison, Amber, Autumn, Arwen, Andy, William and Rebekah; and two great-great-grandchildren, Digger and America.
Visitation for Alma will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22 at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 23 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, 10 Road 6523, off U.S. Highway 64 in Kirtland with Rev. Gary McMillan officiating.
Interment will follow at Memory Gardens, 6917 E. Main St. in Farmington.
Pallbearers will be Steven Austin, Kristopher Karlin, Merl Farnsworth, Rex Farnsworth, Raymie Harper and John Harper.
Alma's care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington, 505-325-8688.
