Alma Arnold, 85, of Farmington, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016. She was born Nov. 14, 1930, in Waco, Texas, to Alma Anderson and Nenus Brown. She was a cancer survivor of nine years but struggled with complications from the treatments she received.
Alma faithfully served her community in a host of volunteer positions, including being president of the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). She was a member of the San Juan Economic Opportunity Board of Directors and a liaison for the Governor's Workforce Committee for the hiring of minorities. She also attended San Juan College and earned two associate degrees and a bachelor's degree.
She married Daniel Arnold, of Dallas, Texas, in June 1956. They raised six children: Walter and Takako Price, of Honolulu, Hawaii, Nenus and Casey Price, of Las Vegas, Nev., Jonni R. Arnold, of Farmington, Danna M. Owens, of Albuquerque, Daniel and Colette Arnold, of Bloomfield, and David Arnold (deceased). Alma's elder brother, Walter Henry Brown, was her only sibling, and preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Savannah Harrison.
Alma is further survived by her three grandchildren, Jon and Kimiko Price, of Honolulu, Hawaii, Valerie Manzanerez, of Aztec, and Micah D. Owens, of Albuquerque. Alma is the great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren residing in Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii and New Mexico.
A viewing will be on Friday, April 8, at Cope Memorial Chapel, 404 Arrington St. in Farmington. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 9, at the Bonnie Dallas Senior Center. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
