Alice Louise Gibson 1932-2014
Long time Farmington resident, Alice Louise Maurhoff Gibson, 82, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2014, with family by her side. She was born February 17, 1932 in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, the youngest of four children. At the age of fourteen, her family moved to Arizona. She attended school in Benson, AZ, where she met her lifelong partner, Frank Gibson. They would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on September 6, 2014.
Alice and Frank moved to Farmington in January of 1951 with El Paso Natural Gas Co. This is where they built their home and raised their family of four children.
Alice was a homemaker. She stayed busy by ironing clothes as her home business. She started Farmington Women's Volley Ball League. She enjoyed playing volley ball, crocheting and collecting over 5,000 key chains. She won many ribbons at SJC Fair for her crocheting and baking.
Her passion was being a "Pink Lady". She started volunteering at San Juan Regional Medical Center in 1978, accumulating 30,750 hours of service. Through the years, she served in many capacities and received many awards. She was the first volunteer to receive the honor of being inducted to the SJRMC Hall of Fame, a Legacy of Leadership in September 2012.
Alice was preceded in death by her son Larry Gibson and grandson John Paul Rowe.
She is survived by her husband Frank Gibson and daughters Brenda (Gary) Omanson of Sun City, AZ, Donna (James) Aunkst of Tijeras, NM, Paula (John) Aunkst of Cedar Hill, NM and Rita Gibson (daughter-in-law) Farmington, NM.
Alice was blessed with 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was loved and will be missed by many.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 11th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St., Farmington. Services will be on Friday, September 12th at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, 1310 E. 25th St. (corner of Knudsen St. and 25th St.) Farmington, with Bishop Michael Kelley conducting. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Gary Omanson, James Aunkst, Brian Omanson, Jeannine Kimble, Elvis Rowe, James Hunter, John Aunkst, Gina Endresen, Lisa Clifford, Kenneth Gibson and Christopher Gibson.
Memorial contributions may be made to SJRMC Ladies Auxiliary, 801 W. Maple St., Farminton, NM, 87401.
