Our dear mother, Alda Lee Sappington, 93, of Aztec, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, at Rust Presbyterian Hospital in Rio Rancho on Thursday, March 20, 2013. She was born May 30, 1919.
Alda lived in Aztec most of her life, having moved from her birthplace, Valiant, Okla., as a teenager. She was the second child of seven, born to Jess and Ethel Troglin Roberts. She married Clifford "Cliff" Sappington, Nov. 7, 1937. They had 72 years of marriage together and four daughters.
Alda retired from Citizen's Bank, a career that she dearly loved, but she and Cliff took up fishing, camping, snowmobiling, ATVing and traveling. They did enjoy their retirement.
Alda was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff; daughter, Carol; granddaughter, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
She is survived by three daughters, Barbara (David) Wilkey, of Aztec, Alice Cook, of Mesa, Ariz. and Sara Pride, of Bernalillo; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two sisters, Agnes Swick and Bernice Jones and numerous nieces and nephews.
We will greatly miss our mom, grandma, sister, aunt and friend, but she is at peace now.
Alda's funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, at the Aztec Baptist Church, 1219 S. Main Ave. in Aztec with Pastor John McEver officiating.
Pallbearers are all of her grandsons.
Interment will follow in the Aztec Cemetery.
Alda's care is entrusted to Cope Memorial Chapel of Aztec, 405 S. Main Ave., in Aztec 505-334-9332.
